Ford India is undoubtedly gunning for enthusiasts with their latest versions of the Figo and Aspire. Taking things in a rather sporty direction, the company has launched their bestsellers in a new sporty avatar and this isn’t just a visual upgrade, for both the Figo and the Aspire have received numerous design and performance enhancements as well.
What The Ford Figo and Aspire Sports Editions get
Keeping with their ‘fun-to-drive-spirit’, Ford has tuned the suspensions, given the cars bigger and wider 15 inch alloy wheels and the Figo Sports Edition also benefits from a rear spoiler to improve aerodynamics. Ford claims that the cars have been engineered to offer a precise and responsive steering to further complement the Sports package.
As far as the engine options go, both models will be offered with a choice of two powertrains, namely the 1.2 TiVCT petrol unit that delivers 88 PS and 112 Nm of torque and the 1.5 TDCi diesel which offers 100 PS of power and 215 Nm of torque. The models will be available with a five-speed manual transmission and are touted to be rather fuel efficient as well. Sadly, the 1.5 TiVCT engine that generates 112 PS and 136 Nm of torque hasn’t been included in the Sports Edition (now that would be something to reckon with). We will keep our fingers crossed for that variant to hit the market, but as of now, you can write it off as wishful thinking on our part.
Key design changes to both the cars include a sporty grille, black insets on the headlamp bezel plus some neat graphics. The Figo benefits from an all-black roof, black alloys and black ORVM covers as well to ensure it has that sporty look down to the ‘T’.
The interiors carry the all-black theme forward, however to add a bit of colour the Ford Figo Sports Edition gets seats with a neat red stitching, while the Aspire gets a fog grey stitching. Both cars also get leather wrapped steering wheels to give them a nice premium touch. As far as creature comforts are concerned, the Figo and Aspire Sports Editions offer the MyFordDock that allows you to store, mount and charge mobile phones, MP3 Players and satellite navigation systems which can also be integrated into the car’s infotainment system.
Keeping things safe, both cars come with dual front airbags, ABS and EBD as standard. Ford is also offering the Figo and Aspire Sports Editions in some exciting colours which include Ruby Red, Sparkling Gold, Oxford White, Tuxedo Black, Deep Impact Blue, Ingot Silver and Smoke Grey.
Here’s what the boss had to say
Speaking about the Sports Editions of the Figo and Aspire, Anurag Mehrotra, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales & Service at Ford India said, “Fresh, dynamic, spirited & sporty, the new Sports Editions of Figo and Aspire are all set to take customers on an exhilarating ride and deliver the real fun-of-driving.”
He further added, “Since their launch, both Figo and Aspire have set new benchmarks in the segment – from the maximum airbags-on-offer to lowest cost of service. The launch of Sports Editions is yet another stride in our commitment to introduce products that customers want and value and will help us further strengthen our position in in the segment and industry at large.”
Has Ford priced the Sports Editions right?
Ford India has been rather aggressive about their product pricing strategy over the past few years and it clearly shows in how well they have managed to position all their products within their respectable segments. The Figo and Aspire Sports Editions are no different and are being offered at equally aggressive price points. The Figo Sports Edition is priced at INR 631,900 for the 1.2L petrol version and INR 721,600 for the 1.5L diesel. The Aspire Sports Edition starts at INR 650,900 for the petrol variant and at INR 760,600 for the diesel. Quite reasonable, don’t you think!
