We’ve been waiting for this compact SUV for a while now. Maruti Suzuki had showcased a concept SUV (codenamed the YBA) a couple years ago and now the sketch of the production ready version has been revealed. It will be known as the Vitara Brezza and it will be sold exclusively through NEXA showrooms across the country once it’s launched later this year.
Set to compete in the growing compact SUV segment that already has the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and upcoming KUV100 in that space, the Vitara Brezza does come across as a product that can make a big dent; after all it is also backed by the company’s legendary service network.
According to the official release, the Vitara Brezza boasts of a confident and energetic design. It has those quintessential SUV lines and bold stance that make it look the part. It has a high ground clearance, short overhangs and neat square wheel arches. The character lines work to give it a nice purposeful stance that is said to offer a visual treat. No doubt, we still need to see this product in the flesh to actually assess its design and features, but we have a feeling that the Brezza is going to impress the masses.
Maruti has also stated that the Vitara Brezza has been crafted to appeal to the urban customer and we expect it to come with a premium fit and finish as well as a host of goodies (much like the Baleno). Incidentally, Brezza means ‘fresh breeze’ in Italian, and much like its name, MSIL is hoping it will deliver a fresh new perspective in the compact SUV segment.
As far as our assumptions go, we believe that it will come powered by the DDiS200 engine and there could be a petrol variant on offer as well. SHVS tech might also make it as part of the package and we aren’t ruling out the AGS tech either. After all, it is an urban SUV and both these technologies make immense sense for a product like this.
