2017 Toyota Corolla Altis launched in India at Rs 15.87 lakh

Posted on by

A refreshed version of the C-segment Toyota sedan, the Corolla Altis has now been made available in the market. The 2017 Corolla comes with the familiar choice of drivetrains – namely, a 1.8-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine and a 1.4-litre diesel with variable nozzle turbo and intercooler. But highlights in the new model include the option of a 7-speed CVT-1 transmission, paddle shifts and the availability of Sport mode.

The Japanese carmaker has also made some visible updates to the Corolla on the outside, primarily on the front face. The head lights are “advanced bi-beam” units with LED and daytime running lamps integrated into them. The refreshed grille design makes the front look even slicker than before. Also new are the 16-inch alloys that dominate the side profile.

Changes inside the cabin are evident from the addition of a large ‘Soft Touch’ infotainment system screen in the centre. On the driver’s side, the instrument panel design has also been revised. The new interior is washed in a neat-looking but mundane ‘flaxen’ shade. According to the official press release, “the new Corolla Altis is the only real sedan to offer a spacious cabin with rear reclining seats.” As opposed to other sedans that are made of taffy, we assume.

The level of safety equipment on board is impressive – seven SRS airbags, Hill Start Assist control, Vehicle Stability Control and an impact absorbing structure are expected to keep the occupants protected in the event of a crash. Of course, options vary according to the trim selected. Prices for the petrol Corolla Altis start at Rs 15.87 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi) for the manual transmission equipped base ‘G’ variant. Meanwhile, the diesel variants with the manual gear box are priced at Rs 17.36 lakh and Rs 19.05 lakh (ex-New Delhi) for the ‘DG’ and ‘DGL’ trims, respectively.

Toyota has also added a new ‘Phantom Brown’ exterior shade to their already exquisite range of white, black, silver, and white (Yes, that’s ‘white’ twice in a sentence – because that’s what customers want – more shades of pale on a sedan).
