Upcoming IoM TT movie has Matt Damon playing the lead and we can’t wait!

What’s common between Matt Damon, Liam Neeson and Cameron Donald? If you answered ‘I don’t know who these guys are’, then go educate yourself first, courtesy Google. In the words of US President Elect Donald Trump, ‘this is hhhuuuuuugggeeee’ because the three are coming together for one of the biggest automotive events in Hollywood history as far as we’re concerned. The rumours have been ripe for a while but it seems like there is confirmation of the news now from Motorbikes.co.uk of an Isle of Man TT movie in the works starring Matt ‘Jason Bourne’ Damon and Liam ‘Oscar Schindler’ Neeson! Here’s the big surprise though – the movie will be called – wait for it… Isle of Man! Right.

Matt Damon to star in Isle of Man TT movie
After bringing back Jason Bourne, Matt Damon will play an American motorcycle racer coming out of retirement for the Isle of Man TT movie

While no release date has been mentioned yet, Matt Damon is said to be playing the part of an American motorcycle racer who comes out of retirement to take part in the TT. Of course, Damon is a huge asset and the film’s insurers won’t let him get anywhere near a motorcycle for the action scenes (of which there will surely be many), so playing his body double will be none other than TT star Cameron Donald. Which means, you will see scenes like this…

Cameron Donald Iom TT
That’s Cameron Donald on the Mountain Course. But it could also be Matt Damon. See the brilliance?

…and think it’s Matt Damon doing all the riding, but it isn’t. Cam is a natural on the TT course though – he’s contested at the Island course all of 7 times, winning twice (2008 Superbike TT and 2008 Superstock TT) with another 10 podiums in the bag already. We’re pretty sure that there can’t be just one TT rider in the frame all the time and the movie is going to be filmed during the 2017 Festival in June, which means there could be other TT riders and regulars involved as well.

2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade Isle of Man TT movie
The real star of the movie – the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, without make up…err… racing livery

Matt Damon’s ride on the 60.7km Snaefell Mountain Course where the Tourist Trophy is run every year is going to be the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade – yes, the Japanese manufacturer is working with the makers of the movie too, as Motorbikes.co.uk confirms. The Fireblade itself is probably a great fit too considering it’s all new for MY 2017 and looks Oh-so-gorgeous. So you can bet Matt Damon is going to have a tough time competing with this 190hp sculpture of sexiness for screentime! Oh wait, now imagine it in full racing livery. Weak-in-the-knees moment just happened.

Cameron Donald and Ben Younger
Cameron Donald (left) has a beard which makes him look older, On the right, that’s Ben Younger.

Speaking of people who are making the movie, ‘Isle of Man’ is going to be directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room – 2000, Prime – 2005) and we’re pleased that he is. Why? Theoretically speaking, no director who doesn’t have a penchant for motorcycles and racing can do justice to a movie such as this and the fact that Younger’s idea of relaxing after a hectic schedule of shooting is to take his motorcycle to a track day means that he has our vote! Incidentally, Younger has been wanting to make a movie on motorcycle racing all along – as he revealed way back in 2006 to SuperbikePlanet.com.

Liam Neeson to star in Isle of Man TT movie
Liam to Matt – “I will look for you, I will find you, and then I will bring you out of retirement to make you race on the most dangerous motorcycle course in the world.” Sounds legit.

If you’re wondering why we haven’t been speaking about Liam Neeson’s role in the movie yet, it’s because we don’t know. Your guess is as good as ours, really. Maybe he’s the guy who helps Matt Damon get his racing lines right for the TT Course. We can even imagine Liam shouting, “Matt! You gotta get on your Nee, son!” Or maybe there’s a bit of dialogue where Liam keeps referring to Damon as the Bourne-again biker? This is going to be fun is all we know and maybe Director Ben is going to be on Cameron’s case, egging him to go faster – “C’mon Donald, faster! Finish this lap already. I’m not getting any Younger! Oh…wait…”
