Two brands, two commercials, and why you feel like watching them over and over again!

An advertising campaign has a lot riding on it. A product or a brand has to be sold to an audience in a matter of minutes and while some people get this right – like Ford India did recently with their ‘Myth-Conception’ videos, there are others who can go horribly wrong –like the Honda Mobilio ‘rap’ song (It received our unanimous vote of being the most irritating car commercial ever here at the MotorScribes office). However, you also have the ones who are able to make a massive emotional connect that has the power to make you want to belong!

These commercials go beyond the product and share a way of life, a thought and that undoubtedly strikes a chord with your needs and wants like no other, thus driving you to be a part of something that is much larger than just owning the car or bike. They are built on great visuals, a fantastic soundtrack and the hours of fantastic editing eventually result in a visual delight that has the ability that delivers a strong emotional connect. We are talking about that nice warm fuzzy feeling you get when you see something that triggers awe, happiness and achievement in one big visual package and literally gets you to go a little weak in your knees.

In recent times, we have come across two such commercials, namely the new Mahindra Live Young, Live Free TVC and the Royal Enfield Himalayan TVC, that have managed to deliver that warm fuzzy feeling like no other. These commercials are something that you will feel in your fingers and you’ll feel in your toes (yes that is a referral to a Wet Wet Wet song)! They make you fall in love, want you to embark on an adventure and most importantly live for yourself on your terms. On that note, here are the two videos for your viewing pleasure and like us, we are certain that you are going to watch them a couple times at least!

The Mahindra Live Young, Live Free TVC - Sequel

To quote Mahindra, “What started as a song, became an anthem. What started as an ad, became a way of life. Here’s our new ‘Live Young, Live Free’ TV Ad sequel.” No doubt, the original came with a strong emotional connect, however the sequel takes things up a few notches and truly shares the spirit of living young and free. And what better way to do it than in a Mahindra right? At least that is what I felt after watching this video and then watching it again with my brother and then sharing it with the world!

On that note, we at MotorScribes did get our chance to ‘Live Young and Live Free’ on the Thunder Run!

The Royal Enfield Himalayan TVC

Keeping with the mountain range that the bike is named after, Royal Enfield managed to pull off a visual package with a fantastic background score and well-voiced narrative that tells you a story of sorts with words of wisdom that speak about living your life on your terms. You can immediately relate to the life of the biker and that sense of achievement of biking through one of the harshest terrains on the planet. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is just the tool that makes all this possible and while it is the hero of the TVC, the subtle way that its abilities are put across is what leaves you wanting one really bad. I personally must have added at least 100 views to the 420,000 that it currently has on YouTube!

Like all Royal Enfield products, the Himalayan too is built on an emotional connect and that also leads to owners wanting to customize their bikes to suit their personality. We recently came across and awesome custom job carried out by Grid7 Customs in Kerala. Take a look: The Green Goblin
