The 11 MotorScribes achievements of 2016 – the year-ender you’ve been waiting for!

Posted on by

We are a funny bunch of blokes (and one gal) at the MotorScribes office and while we like cars and bikes just as much as the next publication, we also believe that life is too short for the serious stuff. It has been a crazy year for just about everyone and bringing in a bit of craziness ourselves are these top features that we pulled off! Laugh, cry, and enjoy as you make your way through the definitive MotorScribes list.

We ate chicken cooked on a Royal Enfield Bullet

Delicious chicken cooked on a Bullet!

When we heard about these college kids down in Bangalore who had built a sidecar for their Royal Enfield Bullet that is essentially a BBQ, we couldn’t resist on numerous accounts. Sure the innovation factor was high on this one and we wanted to see the contraption in the flesh – but most of all, we just wanted to eat some chicken cooked on a Bullet! The full story

We drove a TUV300 for 4000km in just 12 days

4000 km in 12 days done in the TUV3OO was one fun road trip

As automobile journalists, our job is to drive the latest machines out there. Nothing new in that, but when we got the opportunity to take Mahindra’s latest best-seller for a 4000km journey, we didn’t hesitate one bit and got right down to business. From Pune to Kanyakumari and back via the mandatory break for some R&R in Goa was definitely one of our highlights this year. The details are just a click away!

We organized the Thunder Run

An adventure like no other!

Breaking away from the mundane drives and road trip stories, we did something different when it came to planning an epic drive as we set out on the Thunder Run. With six Mahindra Adventure Scorpios at our disposal, we got a bunch of novices to join us for what would be their first massive road trip along the scenic route 66 that runs right on the coast through Kerala and up to Goa. Memories and an adventure that will never be forgotten were forged by this event. Know more about the Thunder Run

Vik n Muntu hunted for a Volkswagen Ameo

When Volkswagen told us that we have been invited to check out their new sub four metre compact sedan, it was time to go into hunting mode and get all ‘Aussie’ about it! Why? Hell, we don’t know, but it was a fun little shoot which we followed up with a sequel. Now how many automotive publications have ever delivered a sequel!

We learnt what it’s like to be rich enough to afford an Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 made its way to the Indian market this year and when we finally got our hands on it, we figured that writing a 10,000 word article about how awesome it is might not be the best thing to do. Yeah, reviews do matter, but when you want to reach out to a generation that lives on their mobile phone, we needed something a little more convincing than just a story and it had to be short. The end result – a masterpiece of a video that captures the essence of it all. The cool dance moves are standard!

We re-imagined the Mahindra Thar…and made it bigger

The Thar XL

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited gave us the idea of rendering what we thought could be a home-grown version of an off roader that also offers enough creature comforts because, let’s face it, we need something a little more affordable. Muntaser put on his designer hat and came up with the Thar XL. It was a blockbuster story that also got a lot of flak from enthusiasts. What do you think about it?

We pissed off a group of bikers

Vikram at one of the stalls at ISF

This one happened quite by chance as our intention was to cover the India Superbike Festival held in Pune. Our suggestion about helmets wasn’t taken nicely and the story literally whipped up a storm that took days to douse. The lighter version was kept alive; however we did have to kill the main story as part of bringing about a truce. You live and learn!

We pimped out a Tata Zest

Our love for the ‘Pimp My Ride’ show led to the making of this video. We aren’t going to describe it here, rather request you to watch and judge our ability to trick out a car for yourself! We also shot a tribute to the Zest which is also worthy of mention here.

We got Hitler to react to the second round of odd-even

In this day and age, whenever anything major happens, the Internet usually wants to know how Hitler would react to the event. So, when Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced the Odd-Even ruling for the second time, we just had to pull off a ‘Hitler reacts’ parody!

We hired our first employee

Somewhere along this year we realised we have made enough money to hire someone. The trouble was finding the right talent! Luckily we had a camera follow us around so we could document the momentous hunt and occasion. How did it pan out? Well, check out the video!

We ate a massive pizza

Office lunches aren’t really a high priority at MotorScribes, however this one time we did end up ordering not one, but two 28 inch pizzas! Massively delicious and we polished both of them off!

That’s it for 2016, and here’s wishing you a Happy New Year folks! As we usher in 2017, stay tuned to MotorScribes because we plan on getting even nuttier!

For those of you who have made the effort to follow us on social media, here’s a big shout out to you. And for those of you who haven’t jumped on our social media bandwagon just yet, we’d like to request you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@MotorScribes).
